Generator Noise is an independent website about generator noise, quieter generators and safe noise reduction. We publish guides for campers, RV owners, homeowners with backup generators and neighbors of generator users, with a focus on explaining generator sound levels, comparing published noise figures fairly and reducing noise in ways that keep carbon monoxide and overheating risks in check.

Who we are

Generator Noise was founded in 2026 and is run by a small, independent editorial team. We are an online-only publication. We are not owned by, and do not work on behalf of, any manufacturer, installer, brand or retailer, and no company reviews or approves our guides before they are published.

What we cover

Our guides are organized into these sections: Generator Noise Basics, Quieter Generator Selection, Generator Noise Reduction, Maintenance and Noise and Noise Buying Guides. Each guide explains what matters for a given situation, which trade-offs to expect and where its advice stops.

How we research

Our content is written by the Generator Noise editorial team. We base our guides on manufacturer specifications and operator’s manuals, published noise measurement standards, and official safety resources such as the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and we link to the source when a guide states a figure or a safety point.

We are clear about the limits of our work. Unless an article explicitly describes our own use of a product, our guides are research-based and are not hands-on product tests. We do not invent test results, ratings or statistics. Read our Editorial Policy for details.

Safety and scope

Generators produce carbon monoxide, which can kill. We never recommend running a generator indoors, in a garage or near openings, fully enclosing a running generator, blocking its airflow or modifying its exhaust. Placement and clearances must follow the operator’s manual and official safety guidance.
